About the OYCOA

The OFFSHORE YACHTS CLASS OWNERS' ASSOCIATION looks after the interests of boats made by OFFSHORE YACHTS, LTD.

AIMS

The aims of the OYCOA are to:

  • Promote and encourage the sailing, cruising and racing of these craft
  • Promote and sponsor any meetings and rallies
  • Preserve the character of these designs
  • Promote the exchange of information and help among its members
  • Provide the opportunity for members to meet other owners of the same boat designs.

AN INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION

The Association is becoming increasingly international in scope with members in Norway and the United States, as well as those in the United Kingdom. The Offshore Yachts were marketed and exported to many countries in addition to the United Kingdom.

AN INDEPENDENT ASSOCIATION

The Association is organised and financed by the members.

ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION

The association is affiliated to the RYA and is an active member.

'OFFSHORE'

This is the title of our biannual magazine in which members exchange and publish technical advice and experience, learn about Association activities and exchange news and views.

An annual competition for the best account of a cruise is arranged and a trophy presented at the AGM. The winning accounts are published in the magazine. The production of this magazine represents the Association's chief activity. It reflects the wide range of members' interests; from estuary pottering to sailing further afield and is a general medium for communication between all in the OYCOA.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Technical information is available from the association either via the online forum where members can post questions, or via the substantial list of technical articles written in past magazines. For a list of the articles contained in the archive, please click here.

RALLIES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

For members who enjoy rallies, these are arranged during the season at popular locations around the coast. The committee is always pleased to encourage any other sort of floating get-together. Development of such ventures is assisted by financial backing from the Association's funds.

The AGM is made a social occasion to coincide with the last Saturday of the London Boat Show. A buffet supper and entertainment is arranged to make it as little like a business session as possible. Group visits to places of interest to yachtsmen are organised whenever possible; recent ones being to Chadley Heath Semaphore Tower and a Coastguard Operations Centre.
